Helpful legal questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about immigration procedures in Bulgaria.
What is the difference between Visa C and Visa D?
Visa C is a short-stay visa (up to 90 days in any 180-day period) for tourism or business. Visa D is a long-stay national visa (up to 1 year) required if you plan to live, work or study in Bulgaria.
How long does a residence permit application take to process?
Typically between 14 days and 3 months, depending on the legal ground and the workload of the relevant authority. We recommend submitting at least 3 months before your visa expires.
Do I need an apostille for all foreign documents?
Not for all. Documents from countries that have signed the Hague Convention require an apostille. From countries outside the convention, full legalisation and consular endorsement are required. Our Starter package includes precise guidance on when an apostille is needed.
Can I work on a Visa D in Bulgaria?
It depends on the basis of the visa. A Visa D for employment allows you to work. A visa for study or medical treatment generally does NOT permit employment. We recommend a consultation before applying.
How should my name be written in the documents — in Latin or Cyrillic?
Official Bulgarian forms require your name exactly as it appears in your passport (Latin characters). Declarations may be in Cyrillic. Our Application Pack includes detailed instructions on correct name spelling.
What does the Premium package include and how does it work?
Premium includes a full personal case analysis, personal completion of all documents, a review of the entire document set and direct communication with us until you receive the final decision. Contact us to schedule an appointment.
Do you accept online payments?
Yes, we accept bank transfer and major credit and debit cards. Flexible payment options are available for Premium clients. Starter and Application Pack are paid at the time of order.
What happens if my application is refused?
With the Premium package, we support clients in filing an appeal or applying on an alternative legal ground. With Starter and Application Pack, we provide information but not legal representation.
Do you work with third-country nationals (non-EU)?
Yes, we specialise in third-country nationals. We have worked with clients from over 40 countries, including Ukraine, Moldova, Russia, China, India, Syria, Turkey and many others.
How do I get started — contact you or purchase a package directly?
You can order Starter or Application Pack directly. For Premium, we recommend a free initial consultation to assess your case and confirm that Premium is the right fit for your situation.
